THE HIGH DESERT ADVENTURE

THIS ONE IS FOR
THE BIRDS

From the Emmy-winning journalist who documented disappearing salmon across the Northwest and recovering grizzlies in Greater Yellowstone, comes a high desert adventure with the largest grouse in North America. Greater sage grouse. Sage Wisdom West premieres in spring 2026 with support from Toyota.

"For more than a decade, we've been proud to support Kris Millgate's work because she tells stories that matter - grounded in truth, stewardship and respect for the American West," says Travis Zmak, Teton Toyota general manager. "Sage Wisdom West is a powerful continuation of that mission, and we're honored to partner with Kris and Toyota to bring this important film to audiences."

Tight Line Media debuts stunning footage of the American West and the wild within it during this half-hour documentary. The new film also showcases insightful perspectives from tribes and ranchers plus scientists and activists all trying to prevent the disappearance of the largest grouse in North America.

"I knew sage grouse would be hard to record in the sagebrush steppe because their numbers shrink as the desert's limited canopy shrinks," says Kris Millgate, outdoor journalist and owner of Tight Line Media. "But I had no idea what else I would find crawling around in the dirt looking for birds. The rugged country grouse rely on is a remarkable landscape where the wild is trying to make its way with us in the way."

Millgate road tripped in summer 2024 working out of her Toyota Tundra paired with her camper while following grouse through Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon and Wyoming. True to her multimedia commitment, Millgate's fourth backstory book, My Place Among Birds, is also available.
