Ocean to Idaho

Mile 465: Barges

Salmon migrating from the ocean to Idaho swim against the current for 850 miles. That current changes in shipping channels. Barges use shipping channels to haul grain to the coast. If you take away dams to save salmon, you take away channels for shipping grain. Moving 1 barge of grain by road or rail  instead of by river takes 134 trucks or 35 train cars.
