Ocean to Idaho

Behind the Scenes: River Life

Gray and green dominate the Lower Columbia. I’ve felt more rain in one week here than I’ll feel all summer back home in Idaho.

My eyes are exhausted by the scenery. That’s good. It means I’m shooting footage I haven’t seen before. My ears are exhausted by the rumble of humanity running along the ribs of the river and through its middle. That’s good exhaustion too. It means my senses are aware of the many demands we place on this system.

And swirling inside it all is a fish with roaring purpose without being seen or heard. Salmon are here and they’re swimming for all they’re worth from the ocean to Idaho.
