Miles and piles of barbwire fence string across the West. It keeps livestock contained but wild birds, like sage grouse who fly low, are easily hung up in strands that can kill them. That’s one of the reasons why a Montana rancher is trying something new. His cows wear electronic collars because they’re corralled with virtual fencing.
