On Grizzly Ground

Episode 13: Listing

Animals that are about to disappear are often granted federal protection under the Endangered Species Act created in 1973. Bald eagles were one of the first animals on the list. So were grizzly bears. Eagles left the list in 2007, but they are still protected by other laws including The Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act. Eagles are not hunted. Bears are. That’s one of the reasons why grizzlies in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem are still listed. Here’s what the timeline looks like when an animal toggles on and off the endangered species list. This is On Grizzly Ground Episode 13: Listing.
